Project on Wiki Leaks by HU Students
Feb 2011, Wiki leaks swept the world in a very short span of time, with a mission to expose oppressive regimes in Asia, the former Soviet bloc, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, and to be of assistance to people of all regions who wish to reveal unethical behavior in their governments and corporations. Since the inception of the website in 2006 it has upset a lot of Governments, revealed millions of confidential documents. In 2009, Amnesty International awarded Wiki Leaks their Media Award for exposing “extra judicial killings and disappearances” in Kenya; and in 2010 wiki leaks website was included in the top 50 websites of Time Magazine.
Hajvery University (HU) faculty member Ms. Rozy Rizvi gave her students a project on Wikileaks; the purpose of Project was to sensitize the students on the Global issues shaping the present and future of our country, and our world. Through analysis of the publications of wikileaks the students were expected to be more aware of the important issues, discussions not only limited to “table talks”, the dark sides of diplomacy and war which highlight one alarming condition: “Multiple examples of legal overreach and critical irregularities”
34 projects were made, students put a lot of efforts in completion of projects, S. Kalsoom Fatima’s project was thought provoking and admired by everyone. It remains to be seen the impact of Wiki leaks, as more and more governments discourage it while some support it. However, it may very well have changed the future decision making by Governments as they become conscious of the repercussions of their policies, when made open to public.
